FEFF addresses the growing gap in food ethics awareness among young people in VET schools, particularly in agriculture and hospitality. It aims to introduce applied food ethics into vocational training using innovative tools like digital learning, real-world training, and serious games. The project supports the EU Farm to Fork Strategy and the European Green Deal, promoting sustainability, ethical food production, and civic engagement.
Data from the 2022 Eurobarometer shows that European citizens are increasingly less informed about food ethics, environmental impact, and sustainable choices. While cost and taste dominate food decisions, ethical and environmental concerns are among the lowest priorities. Additionally, ethics education in VET schools is often theoretical and disconnected from real-life practices.
The project has four main objectives:
1) Promote food ethics among future professionals in farming and restaurants.
2) Increase knowledge and awareness of food ethics among VET students involved in the food ecosystem.
3) Encourage ethical collaboration between students training in agriculture and those in hospitality.
4) Stimulate critical thinking and civic responsibility through practical, real-life ethical scenarios.
Therefore, the project’s aims can be summarised as follows:
a) Making food ethics practical and accessible.
b) Offering students tools to recognize and resolve ethical dilemmas.
c) Supporting schools to integrate ethics into VET curricula through digital platforms and gamification.
d) Encouraging future professionals to take responsibility for sustainability and food integrity.
